8 ways to edit your wardrobe for 2019

Swap Western boots for barely-there sandals, ditch the cold-shoulder cocktail dress for a crochet midi and switch wintry corduroy for acid-washed denim—your head-start on new season fashion begins now.

Shop: The crochet cocktail dress. Stash: Off-the-shoulder dresses

If you navigated 2018’s summer party gauntlet in an off-the-shoulder knee-length dress, your occasionwear wardrobe in 2019 will be all about crochet. The hippified staple has smartened up and (according to Altuzarra, Rodarte, Michael Kors and Self Portrait) now has cocktail-hour approval.

Shop: Acid-washed jeans. Stash: Corduroy flares

When it comes to your weekend look, it’s time to stash Prada’s earthy corduroys (for the moment), as Eighties style sweeps back into your off-duty wardrobe – with high-waisted, acid-washed denim, reclaimed from the realm of bad taste. Shop Isabel Marant, Balmain and Ottolinger for the new mood of tongue-in-cheek chic.

Shop: Barely-there sandals. Stash: Western boots

If 2018 was the year of the cowboy boot (we have Calvin Klein, Miu Miu and Ganni to thank for that), 2019 will see the barely-there shoe (BTS) stealing all the attention. Already a hit among the street style set, the BTS has gone on hiatus during freezing winter temperatures, but is set to return come spring. Net-A-Porter have already shifted over 500 pairs of The Row’s skinny style (a FROW favourite) to date. Keep an eye out for the spaghetti strap sandals from By Far and Rejina Pyo that clock in at a contemporary price point. We’ll be wearing them with straight leg acid-washed denim (and making friends with a talented pedicurist).

Shop: The tie-dye tee. Stash: The logo tee

As much as we love our Fendi, Gucci and Balenciaga logo T-shirts, when it comes to lazy summer staples, 2019 is about going logo-free with lashings of retro tie-dye. Paco Rabanne, Collina Strada and Stella McCartney have the mood-lifting flashback T-shirt styles that are exactly like what your older brother wore in 1991.

Shop: Beige. Stash: Gen-Z yellow

While we’re not altogether abandoning brights in 2019 (see the return of tie-dye, above) fashion is poised for a mainstream shift towards muted neutral shades. ChloĆ©, Burberry and Acne Studios are leading the way when it comes to blending desert tones into your everyday look. Our advice? Start allocating part of your monthly Uber budget to dry-cleaning.

Shop: Upscale knee shorts. Stash: Retro nylon shorts

If Seventies-style nylon running shorts ruled the day (and chic festival circuit) in 2018, next year it’s all about the upscale knee short. Early adopters will already be wearing their second-skin cycling shorts, while the rest of us hold out until Prada’s tailored knee shorts drop in February.

Shop: The sequinned mini. Sash: The sequinned midi

The sequined midi dress really had a moment in 2018, becoming the disco-cum-demure staple of the autumn/winter party season. 2019, however, is set to take a different tack, as Halpern, Attico and Celine’s slashed-to-here hemlines come into their own, for a new era of female body confidence.

Shop: The Nineties summer coat. Stash: The leather biker jacket

Louis Vuitton, Margiela, Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga have come through with a sharp take on summer outerwear for 2019. Their array of smart single-breasted day coats with a distinctly Nineties silhouette now lead the way, where a leather perfecto would feel conspicuously down tempo.

Top 10 Looks of 2018

It’s hard to believe an entire year has gone by! From personal moments watching my daughter grow from a baby to a now 1 year old, Narayan becoming a loving big brother, Dave going vegan (which had a huge impact on my own eating habits), and professional accomplishments like launching another collection, working with some of my all-time favorite powerhouse brands, connecting with you all and so much more, I couldn’t have had a better (and busier) year!

I hope you all enjoyed Christmas last week – I got to spend some much needed R&R at home with the family after celebrating Minnie’s first birthday on 12/24. After a full week of downtime, completely unplugged from my computer, I’m ready to jump into 2019 full-force!

But before we jump into 2019, I’m continuing with my yearly tradition of sharing the year’s most popular outfits, so 2018’s top 10 are below.

Cheers to an amazing year to come, and thank you all so much for your continued love and support, it truly means the world to me.  Happy new year!
