Mom on Duty: Shirtdress and Sneakers

I really love how versatile shirt dresses are – they truly work for any occasion, from the office to date night, and even a mom duty day at a theme park! This is another quick and easy outfit from my recent road trip to Southern California. Dave and I have been wanting to take Narayan to Universal Studios as soon as found out about the Transformers ride, so a day at the theme park was our main objective for visiting the area.

For a busy day of walking and in & out of rides, I knew I needed an ensemble that was comfy enough to get me through the day, but also polished enough to still feel like myself, so a shirtdress worn over shorts and a cami was just the trick!

If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I rarely wear sneakers outside of walking my fur baby bulldog Kingston, but if you’ve ever tried wearing sandals (aka non-supportive shoes) to a theme park, you know that just isn’t smart, so I caved and wore one of my fave pair.

STYLING CHALLENGE; 4 WAYS TO WEAR UNIQLO’S BRA TOP

I’M WEARING >>  Uniqlo Bra Top

When I was presented with the challenge of styling the Uniqlo Bra Top in 4 different ways, I found myself a little out of my comfort zone because it wasn’t a garment I had worn before, but I am a stylist and I am quite daring so I thought; Why not?! :)

As I started putting these looks together, I realised how versatile and useful the Bra Top is, specially during the Summer. Not only can it become an essential staple to base a look on, but they are also super light and breathable since they are a part of their AIRism collection. After putting these looks together, I found myself using these tops more and more on my day to day, I even wore the black one to both boxing and Pilates class last week since it has the bra attached and it is super comfortable.

For the first look, I decided to pair the Bra Top with a colourful midi skirt and my absolute favourite black blazer. I wore the second look to a meeting, so I dressed it up with a grey blazer, my Uniqlo wide legged jeans and a pair of heeled sandals I completely forgot I owned, but gave the look a special twist.

The third look was something you can find me on whenever I am at home or during the weekend. This Bra Top is PERFECT for a denim on denim look, but to make it a little more special, I wore my favourite large brim hat. Last but definitely not least, I wore something that has become quite a staple in my style; “A casual suit”. I paired a classic pair of Uniqlo black trousers, the black Bra Top, my favourite blazer BUT of course, dressed it down with my black Balenciaga Triple S sneakers.

Which look is your favourite? Also, if you happen to own one of these, I would love to challenge you to styling it in different ways and show me the end result! Tag me on instagram if you do so!

HOW TO SHOP FOR AN OVERSIZED BLAZER

Many of you constantly ask me for advice on how to shop for oversized blazers. The truth is that I always yolo it when it comes to size and most of my blazers are found at vintage stores, which means they are quite large (Men’s sizes). Since I am so tall, I don’t mind that I sometimes swim in them (as in like; they’re too large), but I do get that it might be a little intimidating buying a blazer that seems to fit you a bit on the large size.

If you are willing to dip your toes into the oversized blazer trend, my best advice is to search the Mens section and try blazers that are minimum too sizes bigger than the size that would fit you perfectly. For example, I am a mens size 46 in H&M and ZARA blazers (even though that size is already a tad big), but I always skip the size 48 and go for the size 50, so two sizes above. H&M, Topshop and ZARA hey have quite a large selection of black blazers at the moment so I guarantee you will find the perfect one.

If you find one, tag me on instagram! I would love to see your finds <3

FASHION TERMINOLOGY YOU NEED TO KNOW

When I entered the fashion industry I was so puzzled with the fashion terms that were used so often. I read them in blogs, in product description and even by designers but I could never make sense of it. So I’ve picked a few commonly used words in the fashion industry to simplify it for […]

Experiential - SRL Diagnostics | One Stop for all Healthcare Solutions

When it comes to our health , we've often asked ourselves 'Am I healthy?' to 'How healthy am I?'—this shift in attitude has been spurred by the ease of health check-ups and medical tests that one no longer needs a doctor's appointment to carry out. Thanks to modern technology, everything from our blood to hair strand can be swabbed from home and sent off for detailed analysis to a pathology centre.

And its really essential to get regular screening tests as they can catch a health condition even before it starts showing symptoms, helping you take preventive measures. These check-ups could be quarterly, twice a year or yearly. This becomes even more important if you have a lifestyle which makes you prone to health risks.

One lab that has made health checkups easier and simpler is SRL Diagnostics Lab - that is present across major cities in India and is one of the most preferred labs by medical experts.

As part of my regular health check-up, I recently had the chance to visit SRL Lab in Goregaon, Mumbai and review their services first-hand.

About SRL Diagnostics :
"SRL is the leading diagnostics company in India with an impressive reach, providing superior quality diagnostics services to its customers via an efficient network of labs and collection points. SRL Diagnostics has 397 networking laboratories; 24 radiology/ imaging centres; 44 NABL and CAP-accredited labs; and a footprint spanning more than 6739 collection points. The company has large labs in Dubai and Nepal, and about 70 collection points in various countries outside India.

The brand has also recently bagged the prestigious ‘Best brand in diagnostic services in pathology and radiology’ award at The Economic Times Best Brands award- 2019."

Experiential :

SRL has a large number of collection points across India, making it easier for those leading a busy lifestyle or those who don't have a lab nearby to get their test samples collected from their house as per their convenience and check the results online or get them delivered to their house.

Home Sample Collection Kit
However, I decided to visit the lab as I also wanted to experience their lab facilities, which definitely didn't leave me disappointed.

Their Goregaon lab is super specialised with a smooth and structured process right from entering the lab to getting your test reports. I have also shared a brief lab tour on my Instagram page which will give you an idea about their high quality standards and efficiency.

With SRL, your regular health-checkup will also feel like a “wonderful” experience, as you can not only get specific medical tests done but can also choose from their various health packages that have been customised to suit different health needs and lifestyles.

Various Health Packages available at SRL Diagnostics
I decided to go for their Fitness Care - Weight Control package that helped me analyse my overall health as well as any underlying reasons for weight gain through a series of 74 tests that cover general health, diabetes, thyroid, inflammation and various other tests.

I was surprised to know that I could all get these tests covered in just Rs 3,599 which is less than half of what one might have to pay if these tests are done individually.

While I was waiting to collect my test reports, I was glad to know that they have a really comfortable cafeteria where one can relax and have a cup of tea, especially after a long and exhausting day.

But the best part definitely is that you can also get the tests reports online, if you want to save yourself the hassle of visiting the lab again.

After seeing my reports and discussing with my family doctor, I felt quite relieved that I am not suffering from any ailments and all my major health reports were normal. I am glad that I chose SRL Diagnostics as mine and my family's healthcare partner.

A healthy mind and body are something that a lot of us often take for granted. All it would take is just a little attention on our part to have a healthy body and lifestyle. Therefore, I would totally recommend that you should also opt for a health check-up on regular basis with SRL Diagnostics to evaluate your overall well being and to help identify any ailments or issues in their nascent stage making their treatment far more easier.

After all, Prevention is Better than Cure!

HOW TO MINIMISE INVESTMENT IN YOUR BRIDAL WEAR

We all invest in our bridal clothes for that picture perfect wedding day. However, we feel bad to not be able to re-use our gorgeous sarees and lehengas in the future. Given the expensive cost and the exquisite designs of Indian bridal wear it seems a shame to let them hang in the cupboard after […]

THE HISTORY OF TIE-DYE

The word tie-dye became almost synonymous with the hippie movement that took place in America, certain parts of Canada & Europe in the 1960s- 1970s. But the art of tie-dye goes way back. It is a technique which has been practiced in places such as China, Japan, India, and Africa as early as the 6th […]

ORIGINS OF GRUNGE

I am a 90s kid, and no other style speaks to more than grunge. The grunge movement started somewhere in the late 1980s in Seattle, I use the word movement with a pinch of salt as grunge had no message that it intentionally stood for unlike the other fashion movements such as punk (rebellion) or […]

INDIA’S LOVE AFFAIR WITH KURTIS

The word ‘Kurta’ originates from the Persian word for a ‘collar-less shirt’. This rectangular silhouette with a loose fit was worn across Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Srilanka, and Bangladesh by men. It started as men’s attire but was slowly adopted in womenswear as well. Women wore kurtas that were shorter, which are called […]
