This Pleated Trench is a Must-Have

My All-Time Favorite Pleated Trench | Girl With Curves

It wouldn’t be a GWC Collection without a statement, pleated trench, would it?!

The Pleated Trench is back with a few chic updates, including a collar, covered-fabric buttons and more, in Navy and Black. It can be worn as a trench coat, or fully buttoned down the front as a dress. The fabric is a knit so it’s super comfy with lots of stretch.

Shop it here in sizes XXS-5X.

4 Ways to Style the Girl With Curves Tunic Sweater

4 Ways to Style the Girl With Curves Tunic Sweater

One of the best ways to determine if a garment is worth adding to your wardrobe, is making sure it can be styled multiple ways. I apply this to rule when shopping, as well as when I’m designing Girl With Curves collection, so it should be no surprise that every style within the collection is really versatile.

The Oversized Tunic Sweater just dropped today, and it’s one of my all-time favorite pieces because it’s seriously so versatile, pairing back to leggings, jeans and even skirts!

Here’s 4 ways to style it:

Real Talk: I’m Obsessed with Power Walking

Real Talk: I'm Obsessed with Power Walking | Girl with Curves

If you would’ve told me years ago that one day I’d wake up excited to power-walk around my neighborhood, I would’ve laughed out loud. But that’s my current reality and I couldn’t  be happier!

Years ago I thought I had to run and weight train in order to tone and strengthen my body, and I even gave it a try a couple months ago, thinking that consistently rehabbing an old knee injury, along with finally getting rid of chronic joint pain would do the trick, but nope — these knees just aren’t built for the impact of running right now, and I’m okay with that, because walking has been amazing for both my mind and body.

Back in December I found myself extremely fatigued with really low energy. It turned out that my iron levels, which have always teetered on the low end most of my life, had slipped under the normal range.

During the six weeks it took to get my levels back up to normal with a supplement, I wanted to get some sort of movement in, so I started walking.

I started off  just 15 minutes on a treadmill at a zero incline, at about 2.8 mph a few times per week. After a couple weeks, I increased my incline a bit and increased speed to 3 mph. After a couple more weeks, I had increased my incline to a level one and increased my speed to 3.2 mph. I was walking for 40 minutes to music that made we want to dance, so I walked to the beat, and I LOVED it!

Power-walking is now the daily movement I crave. I look forward to getting up in every morning because I can’t wait to power-walk it out on the treadmill or around my neighborhood. It keeps me grounded, relieves stress, and sets the tone for my day.

So if you need a new form of movement that’s easy on your joints but gets your heart, body and mind energized, I highly recommend walking at your own pace and finding your groove. You won’t be disappointed, I promise!

How I’m Styling Printed Pants

How I'm Styling Printed Pants | Girl With Curves

When I purchased these zebra print pants, I wasn’t sure I could pull them off, but I liked the idea of a chic, satin-feel pant that looked as comfy as pajamas, so I took the plunge. When I slipped them on, I instantly fell in love – because there’s nothing better than a cute pair of pants that feels like you’re still in your pajamas, am I right?!

To me, a printed “party” pant is the perfect combination of comfort meets style, which is something that’s becoming more and more important to me as I emerge from my 2020–early 2021 leggings bubble.

However, without the right styling, a printed pant can certainly come across as if you only got dressed from the waist up, so to avoid looking like I’m wearing pajamas in public, I styled them with a bold orange top and neutral accessories – a pairing that I hope makes it very obvious that the look was intentional, and not just me getting half-way dressed that day.

Wearing the Maxi Skirt of my Dreams

Wearing the Maxi Skirt of my Dreams | Girl with Curves

As we slowly get back into the groove of our post-2020 world, I realize more and more everyday that life is too short NOT to enjoy every single day. And what comes along with this same notion, is the fact that life is too short and our clothes are way too cute NOT to actually wear them without a special occasion as an excuse!

With this sentiment in mind, I put this outfit on, took pics of it in the park, then picked the kids up from my mom, and had a date night over dinner and a movie on the couch.

The moral of this story: wear the skirt, my friends! Or the dress, the sequin top, the comfiest sweatpants you own, whatever it may be –  wear it simply because you love it, if for no other reason at all.

Currently Obsessing Over: Wide Leg Pants

Currently Obsessing Over: Wide Leg Pants | Girl With Curves

Hey friends, it’s been a while! I’ve been buried in an exciting venture I can’t wait to share with you in the coming months, but I wanted to check in as the weather is finally warming up, and chat my latest obsession: wide leg pants!

Wide leg pants are having a moment, and for good reason: the world isn’t ready for jeans just yet, but most of us are ready to get out of leggings!

I’m super happy to see so many wide leg options across so many retailers in a range of sizes, from easy pull-on styles to sophisticated, ready-for-the-office styles, there’s truly something for everyone. Best of all, there’s no limit to how you can style them.

Here’s how to look Stylish in Cold Weather

Here's how to look Stylish in Cold Weather | Girl with Curves

Thanks to cooler temps., getting dressed this time of year is pretty tricky. The main issue is it’s too cold to go without a coat, but the warm one’s are relatively boring, completely covering up whatever you’re wearing underneath, but I have a solution!

To add some style personality to winter coats, I like to layer them over neck tie blouses like this polka dot one. Letting the neck tie peak out of the coat is such an easy way to express your personal style during colder months, without covering up your under layers – not to mention this looks super cute on a zoom call!

These are the Best Black-Owned (and Budget-Friendly) Beauty Brands

These are the Best Black-Owned (and Budget-Friendly) Beauty Brands | Girl with Curves

As someone who’s always on the lookout for new, innovative beauty products, I’m excited to share some of the best Black-owned and budget-friendly beauty brands, and even more excited to see them spotlighted at Walmart! From hair care to skincare and makeup, Walmart’s recently launched Black-Owned Beauty site has everything you need in your beauty arsenal.

With over 20 brands featured, there’s truly something for everyone, regardless of hair type or complexion! I’m personally excited to discover brands like Alaffia, a plant-based skin and hair care brand handcrafted with fair trade ingredients who’s product sales go to funding community empowerment projects in West Africa, in addition to natural hair care brands like Mielle Organics and Thank God It’s Natural (tgin) that promote stronger, healthier strands, as well as makeup brand The Lip Bar and more.

As someone with biracial curls that always seem to be incredibly dry and unhappy no matter how much TLC I give them, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on tgin. My fellow curly girls know the struggle is very real when it comes to finding products that nurture and enhance curls, so when a brand comes along that’s especially formulated for curls of all types, you simply have to give it a try!

Not only are tgin products handmade in small batches for maximum freshness, but every product is free of sulfates, parabens, lanolin, petroleum, mineral oil, artificial colors and never tested on animals. Best of all, they’re formulated with natural ingredients like coconut oil, nettle leaf and olive oil, just to name a few. The brand’s founder has an inspiring story as well! After going natural back in 2003, founder Chris Tia said there were very few products made for kinky, curly and wavy hair, so she created tgin in an effort to make products that would make her feel confident about her curls, made with ingredients she felt comfortable using on her body. After using tgin’s Miracle repair Strengthening Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Hydrating Hair Mask and Curl Bomb Styling Gel, my curls were shiny, soft to the touch, bouncy and full of life! I definitely plan on trying more products within this range.

5 Things that Happened when I went Plant Based

5 Things that Happened when I went Plant Based | Girl with Curves

A lot has happened since I went plant based two years ago, but I really started to notice some major changes once I adopted a whole food plant based diet in June of last year.

Today I wanted to take the time to share a few unexpected things that happened along the way – all of which I’m still reaping the benefits of, and some that are continuing to improve to this day!

Happy New Year, friends!

After taking some time off over the holidays, I’m feeling refreshed and excited to tackle a list of to do’s and an exciting project I’ve been working on. Today I wanted to take the time to share some of my personal intentions as you think about and plan your own.

For me, the key to setting sensible intentions is to focus on making improvements vs. changes. Here is my list of 5 intentions I’m focusing on for 2021:
