Masaba Gupta tells you how to pick the right swimsuit for your body type

Have you ever struggled to find a swimsuit that hugs your curves and complements your figure? Masaba Gupta has. The designer went through her fair share of trials when it came to finding the perfect swimsuit. And when she couldn’t, she realised it wasn’t just her—there were many other Indian women who faced a similar conundrum.

“Indian women are conservative in their choices, especially swimwear. Women want swimsuits that they can wear to both family holidays and weekend getaways with their partners. But finding flattering pieces that work for both occasions isn’t easy in India. That’s how the idea came about for the swimwear line,” says Gupta. In an attempt to keep the range affordable, the designer has created fuss-free pieces that will cater to the Indian palette. Needless to say, the brand’s signature eclectic prints have served as a canvas for the swimwear collection, which sees an interesting mix of bright colours juxtaposed with fun prints—a pink base with brown coconuts, a black and white bird print, a green base with unicorn prints, and flowers in hot pink, are just some of the vibrant motifs on offer.

“I’ve kept in mind the Indian size—big women, small women, women with larger chests—and designed functional and comfortable swimsuits that will work for all ages,” adds the designer. Ahead of the launch, Masaba Gupta lets us in on four looks from the new collection that will work for all body types.

Gupta recommends that you opt for a V-neck cut-out swimsuit, and add a light layer to cover up.

A strapless monokini is your best bet if you have a petite body type.

Gupta suggests steering clear of low-waisted bikinis. Focus on non-problematic areas, like the shoulders, with a high-neck swimsuit.

A one-shoulder tie-up swimsuit will work best, according to the designer.
