Vogue predicts: Fashion month’s 10 biggest street style hits

With fashion month just around the corner, the international style clique will be busy compiling their photo-ready wardrobes for New York, London, Milan and Paris. What can you expect to see the industry’s most familiar faces wearing on the front row? We’re betting on Prada’s chubby hairbands and lashings of decorative feathers for day, alongside slouchy acid-washed denim and the most sought after menswear accessories from Virgil Abloh’s SS19 Louis Vuitton collection. Vogue predicts the scene-stealing accessories and Instagrammable staples set to rival the new season runway.

#1: The Prada hairband

If you’ve stumbled on the Instagram profile of a fashion influencer in the last 48 hours, chances are they’ve been wearing a prim hairband. In the pursuit of attention seeking accessories to jazz up a FROW selfie, Prada wins. The house debuted an array of chunky silk hairbands on its SS19 runway and our guess is they will be everywhere come fashion month (closely followed by Prada’s Nineties-inspired Sidonie shoulder bag).

#2: Louis Vuitton menswear accessories

We’re yet to see the womenswear set get their hands on one of Virgil Abloh’s glow-in-the-dark Louis Vuitton keepalls, but there’s still plenty of time before Paris Fashion Week rolls around…

#3: Chanel’s logo utility shirt

When Kaia Gerber stepped onto the sandy shores of la plage Chanel wearing a crisp ‘CHANEL’ emblazoned utility shirt for the house’s SS19 show, the front row took note. The logo shirt was worn by Lily Aldridge in American Vogue February 2019, complete with Chanel gold chain belt accessorising her maternity bump. Our bet is that we’ll spot this sharply tailored, new cult classic amid the street style circus unfolding outside the Grand Palais on Tuesday 5 March (when Chanel will debut their AW19 ready-to-wear collection).

#4: Burberry’s neo-beige palette

Fatigued by eye-popping neons or ubiquitous black, the FROW has a new colour crush for SS19 and we’re expecting it to be in abundance on the pavements of the fashion capitals over the next month. Beige, sand, stone and just about every other faded neutral are currently enjoying a big moment, with Riccardo Tisci’s new vision at Burberry reigning supreme. It’s yet to be seen how the street styler’s pale wardrobe will fare when climbing in and out of cars during fashion week, but watch this space.

#5: Hedi Slimane’s Celine

Whether you’re already a fan or yet to be swayed, Celine’s new era under creative director Hedi Slimane has the power to set tongues wagging—something that the most diehard influencers won’t be shy to embrace. We’re betting that the Medium C bag makes more than a few appearances on fashion’s most powerful shoulders alongside some perfectly tailored blazers, particularly during Paris Fashion Week where Slimane’s exacting silhouettes are typically right at home.

#6: Phoebe Philo’s Céline

The Insta-snowball effect of the @oldceline tag has permeated the FROW’s daily vernacular. Our instinct tells us that the thriving global designer resale market is currently swinging into overdrive to feed the legions of Philo fans who dream of packing an old Céline-only wardrobe for their fashion month voyage.

#7: Loewe’s decorative daywear

Showgoers dressing to turn heads during the February collections aren’t short on headline grabbing style tricks, but all eyes will (still) be on feather trims this month (which means it’s well worth investing in a piece that works beyond cocktail hour). Cue Loewe’s sky-blue silk and marabou laden look—a surefire street style hit in the making.

#8: Balenciaga’s dress coat

Bored with bundling up in chunky shearling and inflated puffer coats, we’re predicting that more than a few street style stars will be giving supersized outerwear the slip in favour of something more cinching: Balenciaga’s groomed dress coat in eye-popping fuchsia. With a hefty price tag, this slick cut ranks as one of the season’s most sought after investment purchases—expect to see it on Demna Gvasalia’s well-heeled fans.

#9: Miu Miu snakeskin

The FROW’s love of exotic prints shows no signs of waning: while we’re expecting to see less cartoonish leopard prints, there’s no slowing down on the kitch-cum-cool appeal of faux snakeskin, with Miu Miu’s pencil skirt topping the shopping list.

#10: Stella McCartney’s acid-washed denim

Fashion editors are never not into denim during fashion month, subject to a seasonal update. Jeans are always the most-straightforward piece to pull out of your suitcase after a red-eye flight. And, while SS19 has put baggy skater denim firmly back on the map (again), those keen to maintain their style lead will be wearing Stella McCartney’s acid-washed jumpsuit with one of the designer’s tie-dye tees for days when the schedule calls for a rushed 7am start.
