Designer Gaurav Gupta will open Lakmé Fashion Week summer/resort 2019

After Vogue announced Delhi-based couturiers Shantanu & Nikhil as the finale designers for Lakmé Fashion Week summer/resort 2019, it’s now time to shine the spotlight on the designer who will be opening the five-day spectacle: Gaurav Gupta. Lakmé Fashion Week will be hosting an opening show—that matches the grandeur associated with the finale—on January 29, one day prior to its official schedule date at The Royal Opera House, and Gupta will be showcasing his summer/resort 2019 collection here.

Titled ‘The (Un)folding’, Gupta uses delicate hand embroidered chikankari and Benarasi brocade to put together a line of dresses, pantsuits, sari gowns, lehengas and evening wear. Expect to see the designer’s signature style of gravity-defying pattern making, which incorporates origami folding as well as fluid-structural construction.

Meanwhile, the colour palette veers towards the summer-friendly pastels—powder blue, yellow, ivory, rose—while embellishment and embroideries like crystals, 3D flowers and zardozi add an interesting element to the collection. Stay tuned to this space for more updates on Gaurav Gupta’s summer/resort 2019 show.
