Fashion week is almost upon us—and this year’s summer/resort 2019 edition is going to be the most exciting one yet, with designers Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra all set to showcase their collection at the Lakmé Absolute ultimate finale for the first time ever. Titled ‘Recruit’, the couture collection highlights the evolution of the millennial Indian woman who has broken through society’s redundant notions of gender binaries.
“Our design sensibilities are in line with Lakmé’s focus on their new Lakmé Absolute matte ultimate collection,” reveal the couturiers. “Unlike their previous grand finale shows, this time they’re not only focusing on grandeur, but also on the understated qualities of design and beauty—and that is precisely what makes the Shantanu & Nikhil couture creations so unique.”
Expect avant garde silhouettes with a focus on structured shoulders, and exaggerated drapes in vibrant shades of black, gold and red—colours that emanate power and glamour in equal parts. Voluminous skirts layered with dramatic mesh and oversized capes comprise the collection, while the accessories see a mix of medallions, silk tassels and gold embroidery.
