Highlights: Day 3 of Lakmé Fashion Week summer/resort 2019

Mumbai’s Jio Garden is abuzz with designers, influencers and fashion insiders alike, and day 3 was the busiest so far. Some shows were a carry forward from Sustainable Fashion Day and incorporated a similar ideology in their collections—like Sweta Tantia’s Tahweave, whose collection revived the age-old craft of ikat, and Anavila Misra’s Anavila, who used 100 per cent natural colours and dyes. Other shows, like Essé by Sahib & Sunayana and Kanika Goyal, came with a powerful message. Scroll ahead for all the highlights from day 3 of Lakmé Fashion Week.

Essé by Sahib & Sunayana

Starting off day 3 were designers Sahib and Sunayana whose label Essé asked the audience a valid question: Why so offended? Cropped jackets worn with bralettes and wide-leg cargo pants, dresses with statement sleeves, crop tops with skirts, won full marks on the sartorial scale for their contemporariness.

Tahweave

Sweta Tantia of Tahweave took inspiration from the French architecture of the 17th century and gave it an Indian spin with the use of ikat. The collection featured easy-breezy dresses with overlays in summery shades of yellows, corals, pinks and blues, making it an ideal pick for a relaxed summer day.

 Kanika Goyal

Kanika Goyal’s ‘Plastic Fantastic’ overtly conveyed a powerful message—in this world that’s overloaded with information and is led by consumerism, it is possible to feel that you are enough. Goyal, through her use of bold hues and maximal aesthetic, made the audience sit up and take notice as models walked down the runway wearing dresses with sheer layers and checked pantsuits with slogans like “Sensor Is Tripped”, “Don’t Cash Feelings”.

SVA by Sonam & Paras Modi

The afternoon moved on to showcase festive ethnic wear, and Sonam and Paras Modi made a strong case for pastels at their summer/resort 2019 show. From lehengas styled with denim jackets to organza layers paired with printed denim shararas, ‘Tara’ lent a boho touch to festive dressing for summer. Brides-to-be, are you taking notes?

 Payal Singhal

For her summer/resort 2019 collection ‘Qo’shilish’, Payal Singhal traced the Silk Route, right from Samarkand in Uzbekistan to Benaras in India, to create a definitive renaissance-meets-Mughal art look. The line introduced new silhouettes like the Nizami sharara, short lean kurtas, saris and renaissance tops in fabrics like velvet, crepe, silk, organza and more, in a colour palette that revolved around moss green, periwinkle blue, dusty rose and sandstone.

 Eka

Rina Singh of Eka’s collection described summer in the best possible way—breezy blouses, relaxed dresses, delicate layers in fabrics like sheer and lace, in a colour palette dedicated to pastels, made up the range. What’s more, models and influencers alike walked the runway for Singh to pay homage to the real women of India.

Anavila

Closing day 3 of Lakmé Fashion Week was designer Anavila Misra, whose summer/resort 2019 collection took inspiration from the culture and diversity of the Sa Pa tribes of Vietnam. The handwoven and handcrafted line featured saris and relaxed dresses in natural yarns like cotton, linen and silk with techniques like pleating, cording and embroidery. The colours and dyes were 100 per cent natural, making the collection eco-friendly and good for the planet.
